CATALYST CASE STUDY

The CATALYST Stand-Alone was applied to 10 packaged rooftop HVAC units serving a multi-use campus in Greenlawn, NY during September of 2023. As part of the project, the MV solution was utilized to extract data for Measurement and Verification purposes. During the first month of install, control was alternated daily between the original, pre-install condition (constant volume, single point changeover economizer) and full CATALYST control (variable speed fan, advanced economization and demand control ventilation).

Utilizing the data to update the annual savings model has shown significant benefits. This was further supplemented by incentives from PSGE LI, a power company local to the area, that covered 70% of the total project cost.

Results:

HVAC electric use has been reduced by 35% and Gas by 19% in the direct comparison of daily alternating operations from (9/28/2023-11/1/2023)
Updating the modeling data shows a projected annual savings of 162,500 (48%) and 4,650 Therms (19%)
Peak demand during this period has been reduced by 2.5 kW (6%)
This results in a simple payback of 1.5 years which is reduced to 0.5 years when including the utility incentive.
