BAYLOR UNIVERSITY EV CHARGING STATIONS

Texas ranks third in the nation for registered electric vehicles (EVs), so it’s no surprise that Baylor University has seen an increase in the number of students utilizing EVs. As a Christian research university, Baylor is committed to the care and stewardship of God’s creation, and its faculty are working to advance sustainable solutions for clean energy production and delivery. A part of the University’s commitment meant increasing the availability of EV charging on campus to accommodate the growing needs of students and guests. In partnership with the Crete United Energy Services team, Baylor will install five initial dual-port EV charging stations at key locations across their campus.

CHALLENGE
As part of its vision for sustainability, Baylor decided to make an initial investment in the deployment of EV charging stations within their campus to support EV owners and begin to prepare for the growth of EV. They needed a partner to support the design and location selection. Additionally, they sought creative solutions to limit their out-of-pocket investment.
SOLUTION
Putting sustainability front and center, Crete United will be installing a top-of-the-line Autel Level 3 Direct Current Fast Charging (DCFC) dual-port station at the Mark & Paula Hurd Welcome Center. For all other locations (selected based on traffic patterns), JuiceBar dual-port Level 2 chargers will be installed due to their more universal application. Crete United’s creative financial solution was to directly purchase the equipment and provide the University with a deal structured around minimum annual revenue.
RESULTS
When completed, Baylor will have 10 total charging ports across its campus. The solution will support community sustainability and fulfill an important first step in their desire to increase EV adoption. Since the infrastructure is wholly owned by Crete United, not only is there no up-front cost to Baylor, but they stand to share in future charging revenue as charger utilization increases.
